PDI-P vs Everyone
Agustin-Iswar Fight with One Party, Yoyok-Joko Supported by Many Parties in Semarang
Semarang, October 3, 2024 – The political contest leading up to the Regional Election (Pilkada) in Semarang City is heating up with the emergence of two attention-grabbing candidate pairs: Asgustin-Iswar and Yoyok-Joko. These two candidates are taking different paths in garnering political support. Asgustin-Iswar have chosen to remain loyal to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), while Yoyok-Joko are backed by a large coalition of various parties.
Asgustin, known as a senior PDI-P politician, decided to run with only one party behind him. He and his partner, Iswar, believe that PDI-P’s support is strong enough to secure victory in Semarang.
“We believe that with PDI-P, we can bring about significant change to this city. Our simplicity and our focus on one party will be our strength in working more closely with the people,” said Asgustin in one of his speeches.
On the other hand, the Yoyok-Joko pair is receiving major backing from a coalition of various political parties, such as Golkar, Nasdem, and Gerindra. With such broad support, Yoyok and Joko are optimistic that this inclusive approach will give them a significant advantage in the upcoming Pilkada. The coalition supporting Yoyok Sukawi and Joko Santoso in the 2024 Semarang mayoral election calls itself the **Semarang Forward with Dignity Coalition. This coalition consists of the Democratic Party, Gerindra Party, PKS, PKB, PAN, PPP, PSI, and Nasdem
“This large coalition is proof that our vision for Semarang has earned the trust of many. We want to build this city by involving all groups,” said Yoyok during his campaign.
The battle between Asgustin-Iswar and Yoyok-Joko is often referred to as “PDI-P vs Everyone,” reflecting a clear difference in political strategies. Now, the people of Semarang eagerly await to see who will win the sympathy of voters and emerge victorious in this Pilkada—whether it will be the pair standing firmly with PDI-P, or the pair backed by a broad coalition of major parties.
