Controlling Sugar Is Strong Evidence of Self-Control

Indonesia is known for its culinary delights that are rich in flavor, and one component that is never absent from our food is sugar. Sugar seems to be the main ingredient in various dishes, from drinks to snacks. Unfortunately, this love for sweet tastes has become a habit that has formed since childhood and continues into adulthood. As a result, excessive sugar consumption has become commonplace for many Indonesians, unknowingly carrying serious health risks, especially diabetes.

Often, we think that giving sweet foods to children is an easy way to please them. However, did we know that this habit can have bad effects in the long term? When someone grows up with an intense sweet taste, the tendency to seek similar foods will be carried over into adulthood, without considering the dangers of excessive sugar consumption. This dependence on sweet tastes that has been instilled since childhood is a big challenge in controlling oneself, especially in a social environment that considers sugar consumption to be commonplace. In fact, this habit actually makes us susceptible to various serious diseases.

Being able to control sugar consumption is actually a sign of strong self-control. Controlling sugar intake requires the ability to resist momentary urges for the sake of a greater goal health. Those who successfully resist the temptation to consume excessive sugar not only avoid the risk of disease, but also demonstrate their ability to manage life choices. Self-control in consuming sugar is real evidence that someone understands the importance of health as a long-term investment, something that will be greatly appreciated in the future.

Building healthy living habits can start with small steps, namely learning and educating people around us about the dangers of excess sugar. Let's change the wrong mindset and start setting an example by choosing healthier foods. Remember, this change is not just about sugar, but about self-control. Reducing sugar consumption is not only an action for physical health, but also a statement that we, as individuals and as a nation, are able to control ourselves for a better future.

CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT FOR A BETTER FUTURE IN INDONESIA

Source: RRI.co.id

air pollution, natural disasters, and loss of natural habitats are facts that we often face or hear about in the news. however, are we going to close our eyes and be silent about it? there is something we can do, which is to try to be sensitive to the surrounding environment. caring for the environment is not only the task of the government or large social institutions, but the responsibility of all of us. every small action we take can have a big impact. so are we still going to remain silent about this?.

Source : RRI.co.id

first, let's see how much waste pollution there is in indonesia. based on data from the ministry of environment (KLHK), indonesia produces around 68.7 million tons of waste per year with the largest composition coming from organic waste, especially food waste which reaches 41.27% and 3.2 million tons of plastic waste. what's worse is that our seas are filled with waste that not only pollutes the water but can also threaten the life of marine life. many marine animals think plastic is their food, causing their death. Simple actions such as reducing the use of single-use plastics, bringing your own grocery bags, and stopping using plastic bottle waste can reduce the amount of plastic polluting the oceans.

In addition, climate change in the world, including Indonesia, is a serious threat. More frequent floods, prolonged dry seasons, and unpredictable weather are all impacts of global warming. Thus we can try to reduce it by saving electricity, reducing glass buildings these simple things can help prevent further climate change.

Creating a clean environment not only improves public health but is also able to provide a good impact for plants and animals to grow. Such as planting trees, cleaning up trash in rivers and beaches, and keeping the streets clean is one of the steps that must be taken from now on. Caring for the environment is not only beneficial for nature but can also improve our quality of life. Let us commit to protecting the environment, starting from small daily habits to participating in existing social activities. A green, clean and healthy future is our right and can only be realized if we start acting now.

Including Attendance as A Part of Academic Grading in An University is A Nonsense

As a college student in Indonesia, I’ve come to realize that the real value of education doesn’t lie in simply being present in a classroom but in understanding and applying the knowledge we acquire. Yet, many of us are still graded based on our attendance, not on how well we actually grasp the material. This system is not only outdated but also unfair, as it fails to take into account the real-life challenges we face as students. Grading attendance in Indonesian universities doesn’t just feel frustrating—it’s a broken practice that harms students more than it helps.

First and foremost, university is supposed to be a place where we, as adults, learn to take responsibility for our own education. We pay substantial tuition fees, and most of us also have to manage other responsibilities outside of class, such as part-time jobs or family obligations. In Indonesia, many students juggle both work and study. In fact, it’s not uncommon for students to work part-time jobs to help pay for their tuition or cover their daily expenses. However, by grading attendance, universities are sending the message that simply showing up is more important than actively engaging with the learning process. As adults, we should be trusted to manage our own learning and time. Grading us on whether we attend class doesn’t account for the fact that many students learn better in different ways, such as through self-study, group discussions, or online resources. Education should focus on how we learn, not just our physical presence.

Another issue is the reality that many students in Indonesia face financial and personal challenges that make attending every class difficult. A significant portion of Indonesian students work while studying, and sometimes, attending class simply isn’t possible due to work schedules or family emergencies. For instance, it’s common for students in more rural areas to have limited access to universities, and some even need to travel long distances to attend classes. Grading attendance penalizes students who are trying to balance work and study, often leading them to choose between fulfilling basic needs and being present in class. Instead of understanding the complexities of student life, attendance-based grading adds unnecessary pressure that doesn’t help anyone. It's not just about skipping class for fun—many students skip because they are faced with real-world priorities.

Moreover, even if we do attend class, merely being present doesn’t guarantee we’re learning effectively. I’ve been in classes where some students are physically there but mentally checked out. Whether it’s scrolling through social media on their phones or daydreaming, simply being present doesn’t equate to engagement or learning. Studies show that attendance alone has little correlation with academic performance, whereas motivation and active participation are much more important (Credé, Roch, & Kieszczynka, 2010). The focus should be on how engaged and motivated we are in the learning process, not on whether we check the box of being in class. Some students thrive when given the freedom to learn in their own way, and penalizing them for not attending class only hurts their overall academic experience.

Another problem with attendance-based grading is that it can create a less productive and even negative classroom environment. In many cases, students who are only there to avoid penalties don’t participate, leading to a dull and disengaged class. I’ve been in classrooms where the lack of genuine interest was palpable—people were physically there but not contributing to discussions. When students are motivated to be in class, the environment is much more dynamic, and the learning experience becomes richer. Research has shown that students who are engaged with the material contribute more to the overall classroom environment, which benefits everyone (Gunuc & Kuzu, 2015). So why force attendance if it results in a class full of disengaged students?.

Finally, the concept of grading attendance simply doesn’t prepare us for the real world. In the workforce, employers are not concerned with whether you’ve been physically present for every meeting, but with whether you can meet deadlines, complete tasks efficiently, and contribute effectively to a team. The same should apply to university. College is supposed to prepare us for the future, and it should focus on skills like time management, responsibility, and critical thinking. Grading us based on attendance doesn’t teach us these skills; it teaches us to focus on simply being there rather than on the quality of our work. Employers, according to a study by the National
Association of Colleges and Employers, value time management and responsibility over simply showing up (National Association of Colleges and Employers, 2020). Universities should focus on helping students build these real-world skills, not on enforcing attendance rules that don’t help us grow.

Ultimately, grading students based on attendance does more harm than good. It disregards the complex realities of student life in Indonesia, where many are balancing jobs, family responsibilities, and education. It also fails to acknowledge that learning is not confined to physical presence in a classroom; true education happens when students are engaged, motivated, and given the freedom to explore knowledge in ways that suit their individual needs. By continuing to prioritize attendance over genuine learning, universities miss an opportunity to foster critical thinking, time management, and real-world skills that will truly prepare students for the future. It’s time for universities to focus on what truly matters—our understanding, growth, and ability to thrive in the world, not just our ability to sit in a classroom. Let’s move towards a system that values quality learning and personal responsibility, not just the act of showing up.

More Freedom, Less Wait: Here's Why Self Service in Cafes Is Actually Great

sources: visa.uk.co

Self-service in cafes is becoming more popular and brings tons of benefits for both customers and owners. Even if some people prefer full service, self-service can actually improve our daily coffee experience. In today’s fast-paced world, being open to self-service in cafes means embracing more efficiency and comfort for everyone.

First, self-service makes things quicker and smoother. Instead of waiting for a server, we can just order, pay, and grab our drinks on our own, especially when the place is packed. It cuts down wait times, letting us relax with our coffee faster. For the cafes, self-service also lowers operating costs by reducing the need for extra staff, which means they can keep prices reasonable without compromising quality. So, customers can enjoy great drinks without the hefty price tag.

Self-service also gives us more freedom and comfort. We can pick our seat, manage our time, and enjoy the cafe vibe at our own pace, without constant interactions. Plus, this setup lets us focus more on our work, reading, or just chilling without interruptions. Another big perk is cleanliness and responsibility. By taking care of our own tables and returning empty cups, we help keep the cafe neat and welcoming for the next customer. It’s a small but meaningful way to contribute to a cleaner, cozier space.

So, self-service in cafes isn’t just a trend, it’s a win-win for everyone! With self-service, we get faster service, better prices, more freedom, and a chance to help keep things tidy. Let’s embrace self-service in cafes and enjoy the benefits!

Achieve a fresher and more energetic body with 8 glasses of water a day

pinterest

Did you know that our bodies consist of more than 70% water, and every vital organ such as the brain, heart and kidneys depends on fluid to function optimally? However, despite our reliance on water, many people still overlook the importance of adequate hydration. In fact, just by drinking 8 glasses of water a day, we can feel extraordinary changes in our physical and mental health

Water is a vital component that we often ignore in our daily lives. According to several experts in their research, at least 95% of the human brain is made up of water, 82% of water is in the blood, 75% of water is in the heart, 86% is in the lungs, and approximately 83% of water is in the kidneys (Kusumawardani & Larasati, 2018). Although our bodies are very dependent on water, many people prefer sweet or caffeinated drinks, often without realizing the importance of adequate hydration. In fact, drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day has significant health benefits and should not be ignored. Ignoring the need for water can have a negative impact on our physical and mental health, so it is very important to make good hydration a priority in our daily lives. Here are the benefits of adequate water intake for the body.

First, it can improve physical performance. When the body lacks fluids, our physical performance can be impaired. Research shows that losing just 2% of total body fluids can cause a decrease in physical performance of up to 20%. Dehydration can affect the body's strength, endurance, and ability to perform daily activities, including exercising and completing routine tasks. In fact, when we are not hydrated enough, muscles can become weaker and more susceptible to injury. By making sure we drink enough water, we can stay fit, active, and support optimal physical performance in all the activities we do.

Second, it can help digestion. Water is essential for the digestive process. Consuming enough water can help prevent constipation and other digestive problems. Water helps dissolve nutrients from food and deliver them throughout the body, so we can get the most out of what we eat. In addition, water also makes food move more easily through the digestive tract. Research shows that not drinking enough water can cause digestive problems, such as bloating and pain. So, make sure we drink enough water so that our digestion stays healthy and functions properly.

Third, supports skin health. Not only beneficial for internal organs, drinking enough water can also improve skin health. Dehydration can make skin look dull and more prone to wrinkles. When the body lacks water, the skin can lose moisture, which causes it to appear dry and dull. By maintaining adequate water intake, we can keep skin healthy and radiant. Research shows that good hydration can improve skin elasticity and reduce signs of aging. Reported from halodoc, drinking mineral water can reduce wrinkles, dark spots, and dull skin. You can imagine, if someone does not drink enough mineral water, there will be a lack of silica which causes skin aging. In addition, drinking enough water also helps remove toxins from the body, which can contribute to cleaner and healthier skin. So, make sure to meet your fluid needs so that your skin looks fresh, young, and radiant.

Fourth, maintain Overall Health. Water helps regulate body temperature, maintain electrolyte balance, and support the immune system. Consuming enough water is an important step in maintaining overall health. When we are well hydrated, the body can function optimally, including in the process of metabolism and energy production. Water also plays a role in transporting nutrients and oxygen to the body's cells, and helps remove waste through sweat and urine. So, ensuring adequate water intake is essential to supporting various body functions and maintaining our overall health.

Based on the 2013 Nutritional Adequacy Rate, the average healthy adult is recommended to consume 2 liters of water per day or the equivalent of 8 glasses of water. By paying attention to water intake, we not only support our physical health, but also our mental health and appearance. Adequate fluids can help improve concentration, reduce stress, and provide additional energy throughout the day. In addition, well-hydrated skin will look brighter and healthier. Try to always carry a water bottle with you wherever you go, or set a reminder to drink every hour. This small habit can make a big difference in your health. Let's start this good habit for better health! By prioritizing water intake, we invest in ourselves and a better quality of life in the future. So, grab your glass, drink water, and feel the benefits!!!

The World is Moving Fast: Don't Get Left Behind by Not Learning a Foreign Language

Photo: yoursay.id

In an era of globalization that is increasingly changing the way we interact and do business, learning a foreign language has become a necessity, not just an option. Imagine being able to speak to a client from Japan, interact with a new friend from Brazil, or gain a deeper understanding of Spanish culture. While many people still underestimate the power of a second or third language, it is time to open our eyes to the many benefits it offers.

A study published in the journal Psychological Science revealed that learning a foreign language can improve cognitive function and problem-solving abilities. The study showed that bilinguals have better multitasking and problem-solving abilities compared to those who only speak one language (Bialystok, Craik, & Luk, 2012). This is due to the mental exercise that comes from switching languages.

However, many people still consider learning a foreign language difficult and unnecessary. For those who are comfortable with their mother tongue, the reality is that the world is evolving rapidly. Without the ability to communicate in more than one language, a person could be left behind in this increasingly connected world.

Photo: RRI.co.id

Learning a foreign language also opens up wider career opportunities. In a survey by the New American Economy, the demand for workers who are fluent in a foreign language has doubled in the past five years (New American Economy, 2017). Multinational companies are looking for individuals who are able to communicate with clients and coworkers from different countries. Mastering a foreign language not only increases job opportunities but can also increase the salary received.

In addition to cognitive and professional benefits, learning a foreign language provides an opportunity to understand other cultures in greater depth. According to the Modern Language Association, students who study a foreign language tend to have a more open outlook on other cultures (Modern Language Association, 2018). The process of learning a language involves more than just words; it also includes understanding the way of life, traditions, and values of the people who speak the language. Thus, learning a foreign language can promote peace and mutual understanding between nations.

Photo: DERIOTA

For some, learning a foreign language may seem like a burden. However, this process can be very rewarding. According to The New York Times, people who learn a new language often report increased self-confidence and personal satisfaction (The New York Times, 2016). Learning a language takes persistence and dedication, and reaching each stage from understanding basic words to speaking fluently can be a very satisfying sense of accomplishment.

So, do you want to be part of this increasingly connected world, or are you marginalized by your lack of ability to communicate with others? With all the benefits, there’s no reason to put off learning a foreign language. Whether it’s to improve your cognitive function, open up career opportunities, understand another culture, or simply for personal satisfaction, learning a foreign language is a worthwhile investment.

Don’t wait any longer; it’s time to open the door to wider opportunities through a foreign language. Get started now and experience the change that brings you closer to a world of opportunities!

Aliens Probably Exist: The Case for Extraterestrial Life👽

from GIPHY

Imagine this scenario, you are gazing up at the stars on a clear night sky, realising each twinkling light is just a glimpse of something much bigger than we can comprehend. The universe stretches infinitely, home to countless galaxies, stars and planets. Yet, YOU STILL THINK THAT EARTH IS THE ONLY PLACE TO LIVE???

While there is no concrete evidence of intelligent extraterrestrials, scientific discoveries are increasingly pointing to the possibility of life beyond Earth. From indications and hypothesis of microbial life on other planet to NASA's discoveries of Earth-twin planets, evidences is growing that life is exist somewhere out there.

#Redefining "Alien"

Illustration of Microorganism

When you hear the word "alien", you probably think of a small, green creature with a bulbous eyes, oversized black eyes and spindly limbs. Perhaps you imagine it standing in a sleek, silver spaceship, studying humans with an otherworldly curiosity, as popularised by the media. Well, little did you know guys that the term "alien" simply means any life form that did not originate on Earth, and yes, this could even include the tiniest microorganisms.

NASA has spotted signs of compounds that could support life on the red planet, Mars. There are methane emissions and frozen water, which suggest that microbial life might be present. Similarly, scientists have detected saltwater oceans beneath an icy crust on one of the Jupiter's moon, Europa. This could be a place where microbial life exists in form similar to those found in extreme environments on Earth.

#Earth-like Planets
Kepler-452b

With so many Earth-like planets being discovered, it is becoming more and more likely that there is probability life could exists out there in the universe, suggesting that we may not be alone in the universe. One of NASA's most famous finding is Kepler-452b, which is in the "habitable zone" where water could exist, much like on our beloved Earth. Scientists believe that, due to its position in this temperate zone, Kepler-452b could have conditions on its surface that would allow liquid water to exist, which is one of the essential components for life as we understand it. This finding has got people excited about the potential for discovering Earth-like conditions beyond our solar system and has raised hopes for the existence of other life-supporting planets.

#ALIEN DOES NOT EQUALS HIGH-INTELLIGENCE BEING

One common question people ask is, "If alien exist, why haven't they contacted us?"
This skepticism is once again, fueled by science fiction portrayals of intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations. However, the reality might be simpler, any alien life that exists may be in a primitive stage, much like microorganisms on Earth. If alien life is limited to microbes or other non-technologically advanced forms, communication is naturally impossible. By redefining your comprehension of alien to even microscopic life, you can see that alien life does not have to mean intelligence beings; it might simply mean any living being that originated outside Earth.

With cientific evidence of possible microorganisms on other planets, followed by the discovery of Earth-twin planets in habitable zones, and ongoing exploration by the expert, the idea of life beyond Earth becomes increasingly plausible. As our technology improves, we should also be open to the idea of finding life on the other side of the universe. Until the, it is important to challenge our preconceptions about extraterrestrial life, moving beyond Hollywood stereotypes to embrace the true vastness of the universe and the potential for life in all its forms.

Stopping Waste Disposal in Indonesian Rivers: For the Future of Our Environment

Rivers in Indonesia are invaluable as water sources, wildlife habitats, and essential resources that support ecosystems and human livelihoods. However, waste dumping in rivers has become a chronic issue that threatens our river ecosystems. If left unchecked, its negative impact will jeopardize future generations. This article aims to persuade you to stop disposing of waste irresponsibly and to actively protect Indonesia's rivers.

Disposing of waste in rivers must be stopped because it harms ecosystems, pollutes water sources, and diminishes human quality of life. We need to take real action to preserve our environment and safeguard future generations.

1. Negative Impact on River Ecosystems
Rivers are home to various fish species, plants, and other aquatic life. When waste, especially plastics and chemical pollutants, is dumped in rivers, it contaminates the water and causes a damaging chain reaction. Research shows that 80% of ocean pollution originates from waste initially discarded in rivers. As a result, aquatic animals ingest harmful microplastics, which endanger their health and disrupt the ecosystem. This disturbance affects the food chain, which ultimately impacts human health as well.

2. Contaminating Water Sources and Endangering Human Health
Rivers are a primary source of drinking water, especially for communities near their banks. When waste and chemical pollutants contaminate these waters, they impact human health directly. For instance, high levels of toxic substances such as heavy metals in polluted rivers can cause severe health issues, including skin diseases, respiratory problems, and even long-term cancers. WHO data reveals that approximately 3.4 million people die each year due to diseases linked to poor water quality.

3. Economic Consequences
This issue affects not only ecosystems and health but also local economies. Polluted rivers lose their appeal to the tourism industry, reducing local income and affecting the livelihoods of locals who depend on tourism and fishing. Fishers lose access to healthy catches, while communities lose natural beauty that could attract visitors. By maintaining river cleanliness, we not only protect nature but also ensure economic sustainability.

Some argue that dumping waste in rivers is the easiest solution for dealing with household waste and that its impact is minor. However, the reality is quite the opposite. Every piece of waste, even if seemingly small, accumulates into a massive, dangerous problem. Relying on rivers as a "natural garbage dump" only exacerbates the situation, placing a burden on future generations.

Indonesia's rivers are treasures that must be protected. By stopping waste dumping and responsibly managing waste, we can leave a healthy, sustainable environment for future generations. Let's join in supporting river cleanup initiatives and educate ourselves on proper waste management. Every small step we take today is a big investment in our planet's future.

"Stop dumping waste in rivers! Join the clean river movement for a better future for Indonesia."

Not Just Play: The Stress-Relief Benefits of Video Games

by Thomas Dinata

In an increasingly fast-paced and stressful world, finding ways to manage stress and anxiety has become more important than ever. While often seen as a distraction, playing video games can serve as an effective tool for reducing stress and anxiety. With proven benefits, gaming deserves consideration as one of the ways to enhance mental well-being.

https://static.promediateknologi.id/crop/0x0:0x0/0x0/webp/photo/p2/01/2024/06/29/gamer-chair-with-multicolored-neon-lights-1-2917015800.jpg

One reason video games are effective in reducing stress is their ability to provide an escape from daily life. When players immerse themselves in a game world, they can forget about their problems and engage in enjoyable experiences. According to a study published in the Journal of Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, playing games can improve mood and provide positive feelings that can lower stress levels. In many games, players can explore new environments, embark on adventures, and achieve accomplishments that provide a sense of achievement.

https://rb.gy/ivh9bx

In contrast with the conventional assumption that video games are solitary pursuits, many video games emphasize social interaction and community building. Multiplayer games, in particular, create environments where players can connect, collaborate, and form friendships. In particular, multiplayer games facilitate the formation of connections, collaborations, and friendships among players. Engaging with others in a virtual space fosters a sense of belonging and support that can be invaluable during stressful times. Research from the University of Oxford indicates that gamers who connect with others online report higher levels of well-being and lower levels of anxiety. These connections provide emotional support and allow players to share experiences and coping strategies, further reducing stress.

Interestingly, some video games are designed specifically to promote relaxation and mindfulness. Games such as Journey or Stardew Valley encourage players to slow down, explore, and engage in calming activities, such as farming or exploring serene landscapes. These games can serve as a form of digital meditation, allowing players to unwind and reset their mental state. The American Psychological Association notes that such games can lower heart rates and promote feelings of calmness, offering a unique avenue for stress management.

Many modern games offer multiplayer features that allow players to connect with others around the world. These social interactions can be a much-needed source of support, especially for those who feel isolated or overwhelmed. Participating in gaming communities enables individuals to share experiences, strategies, and support, which can enhance feelings of belonging. A survey by the Entertainment Software Association found that 70% of gamers feel more connected to others through gaming, which can contribute to reduced social anxiety.

While there is stigma surrounding video games, it is essential to remember that not all games are the same. Well-designed games can provide significant benefits for mental health. The stereotype that games only lead to addiction or behavioral issues needs to be addressed by showcasing research supporting their benefits. By promoting games as a positive way to manage stress, we can help change societal views on the role of gaming in daily life.

[Persuasive article] The Importance of Reducing the Use of Single-Use Plastics

The Importance of Reducing the Use of Single-Use Plastics

We encounter single-use plastic products every day, from shopping bags to water bottles. Although they may seem convenient, the overuse of single-use plastics has serious environmental impacts. According to a World Economic Forum report, if an urgent act is performed, the weight of the marine plastic can be overweight by 2050. And put the health of living creatures. Are you at risk? Discounting the plastic you're willing to throw away isn't just a small gesture. This is an important step to maintain the stability of the planet.

First, single-use plastics are difficult to biodegrade naturally. Most plastics take over 400 years to decompose, resulting in a buildup of waste that will pollute the environment for generations. This plastic pollutes the land, oceans, and even the air through microplastics. Studies have shown that almost 90% of water samples tested worldwide contain microplastics that reach the human food web and pose health risks.

Secondly, single-use plastics not only pollute the environment, but also expose the fauna. Marine animals such as turtles and whales are often mistaken for plastic and food, and die when caught. Land animals also seem to be victims. The National Geographic reports that plastic waste kills about 1 million seabirds each year, and that if immediate precautionary measures are taken, the balance of the ecosystem will be severely destroyed. On the other hand, in the food industry, some claim that single -use plastic has the advantage of efficiency. Plastic is cheap and easy to produce, making it a cost-effective solution for many companies, but do the costly benefits outweigh the long-term impact on the planet? Currently, many alternatives, such as natural, biodegradable, plant packaging, reusable fabric regulations, and stainless steel water bottles, are available. Initial costs can be slightly higher, but long -term profits are investment.

Reducing disposable plastic is not only a matter of individual lifestyles, but also a collective responsibility. We have a moral duty to protect the planet from the harmful effects of plastic and make the future generations use a healthy environment. Governments, businesses and communities need to come together to support policies that reduce plastic consumption and prioritize environmentally friendly products. Take simple steps like bringing your own shopping bags and using stainless steel straws to implement these changes now and give the planet a chance to recover from the damage we have caused. The small choices we are doing today are one of the wider steps to a more pure and stable lifestyle.

The Essential Role of Sunscreen: Protecting Skin Health and Youthfulness Every Day

Source: LPM Sigma

Skincare has become one of the most talked-about topics today, especially among women. The importance of using skincare to maintain skin health is often highlighted, with sunscreen being one of the key elements. In tropical countries like Indonesia, sunscreen is crucial to use during outdoor activities in the morning and afternoon. The abundance of sunlight throughout the year is one of the reasons why sunscreen is essential. While sunlight does offer benefits to our bodies by activating vitamin D, UV rays can harm the skin when exposed for too long (BPOM, 2009). Sun exposure can damage the skin due to ultraviolet (UV) radiation (Rahmawati, Muflihunna, & Amalia, 2018). Despite research on the side effects of UV rays, not everyone is aware of the importance of using sunscreen. According to data from the National Health Statistics Center, National Health Interview Survey in 2020, 12.3% of men and 29.0% of women aged ≥18 years always used sunscreen when outdoors on a sunny day for more than an hour. The percentage of men who consistently used sunscreen was lowest among those aged 18–29 (8.2%) and increased to 13.7% among those aged 30–44, 13.0% among those aged 45–64, and 13.6% among those aged ≥65. For women, the percentage of consistent sunscreen use was lower among those aged 18–29 and ≥65 (25.7% and 27.7%, respectively) compared to those aged 30–44 and 45–64 (30.0% and 30.9%, respectively). Across all age groups, women were more likely to consistently use sunscreen than men.

In the research from the National Health Statistics Center shows that there is lacking of awareness of sunscreen. There are so many reasons that people said who doesn't like use sunscreen. For instance, "using sunscreen is complicated", "feeling sticky on the skin", "it's better to buy cigarettes than sunscreen", "using ablution water is enough", and many else. For me, those reasons are really nonsense. That means they don't care about their own skin and don't feel sorry for their own skin. It is their unreasonable reasons that will make them age quickly and have the highest risk of getting cancer. Those research and three benefit that I will tell, reinforce my belief in the importance of wearing sunscreen and continuing to emphasize how essential it is. Therefore, it’s important for us to understand the significance of using sunscreen.

First, it prevents premature aging. Everyone wants their facial skin to always look healthy, firm, and youthful. By using sunscreen regularly, it helps keep your skin looking young. When we are exposed to direct sunlight without protection, it causes the skin to wrinkle and develop fine lines more quickly due to UV exposure. UV A rays can lead to premature aging by degrading the skin matrix. UV A radiation penetrates the skin matrix and can react with oxygen, producing free radicals that cause collagen cross-linking and damage to skin fibroblasts (Karen et al., 2009). UV rays are also responsible for damaging elastic tissue (Menter and Hatch, 2003).

Second, it reduces the risk of dark spots on the face. Using sunscreen helps prevent dark spots, which often appear due to sun exposure. UV A radiation causes the skin to darken as it penetrates deeper into the dermis, leading to premature aging of the skin (Menter and Hatch, 2003). Sunscreen provides protection by blocking a significant amount of UV rays from reaching the skin. The broad-spectrum content in sunscreen, which protects against both UV A and UV B rays, helps prevent excessive melanin production, which is the skin’s natural response to UV exposure. Without this protection, melanin production can increase significantly, causing certain areas of the skin to appear darker or experience hyperpigmentation.

Third, it reduces the risk of cancer. One of the great benefits of sunscreen is that it protects facial skin from UV B rays, which can lead to cancer. UV B radiation is known to cause significant skin damage and can even result in skin cancer (Mukti, 2014). According to Roelandts (2009), the purpose and benefit of using sunscreen is to protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV radiation and to prevent skin cancer. Regular use of sunscreen, whether for indoor or outdoor activities, is a proactive step in helping to protect facial skin from UV exposure that can lead to skin cancer.

With these three benefits of sunscreen—preventing premature aging, reducing dark spots, and lowering the risk of cancer—there is every reason to make sunscreen a daily essential, whether indoors or outdoors. There's no downside to trying sunscreen, which brings so many advantages to our skin. Using sunscreen can be an investment for the future, helping to keep facial skin healthy and youthful. So let’s start using sunscreen today. If not now, then when?

Why we must separate the art from the artist.

There will be less books, artworks, and musicians for us to enjoy and learn from if we don't keep art and artists apart in this day and age.

It's important for enjoying art. People are prone to errors, and such mistakes are typically unacceptable. Nonetheless, their art does not condone their faults. People should be able to appreciate music, movies and art even if an artist has done wrong, as long as they think about it critically.

Art cannot exist as merely a trendy pop obsession. It remains even helping one to recollect cultures and civilizations that existed long ago. If only we get to know the deeper implications of the histories of art that are appropriated and do something towards the educational institutions about this, it is possible to sustain such appropriated periods of art for a reasonable period of time and allow it to evolve rather than be frozen. This is not to say that every artwork that has ever been achieved should be appreciated and practiced in schools at all times. It also implies that we have to look at the whole work rather than dismiss it simply because we have attempted to impose the creators’ ideas over the work.

One of the biggest examples of separating art from the artist is in music and visual arts. Kanye West and Pablo Picasso are both renowned for their contributions to their respective fields, yet they have also been widely criticized for controversial behavior and beliefs. Kanye West, for instance, has made statements and taken actions that many find problematic, while Picasso’s documented history of misogynistic behavior has cast a shadow over his personal character. However, Kanye’s innovative approach to music production and Picasso’s revolutionary contributions to modern art remain significant and influential.

When talking about the relationship between artists and their art, it's crucial to keep in mind that societal norms are constantly evolving. For instance, consider the film The Shining (1980), directed by Stanley Kubrick. This psychological horror is celebrated for its groundbreaking visuals and eerie storytelling, yet Kubrick's intense treatment of actor Shelley Duvall during filming has been widely criticized. Despite the controversy surrounding Kubrick’s methods, The Shining remains an iconic piece of cinema with a lasting impact on horror and psychological thriller genres. If the film had been dismissed due to Kubrick’s behavior, its influence on visual storytelling and character-driven horror would have been lost to future audiences.

The most common instance of dseperating art from the artist can be seen in the realm of music. like Elvis Presley or Robert Plant, Courtney Love and Matty Healy pose similar issues Musicians who are inherently flawed individuals. However, it is important to distinguish musicians from their music, their music frequently impacts their genre and should not be disregarded.

In 1992, Nirvana's lead singer Kurt Cobain admitted to Rolling Stone that while he appreciated Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin's music, it wasn't until later that he recognized the sexism in their lyrics. Choosing to appreciate art regardless of the creator is not a way to justify the music one enjoys. It requires recognizing a artist’s imperfections and being judgemental of those we admire.

“Although I listened to Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, and I really did enjoy some of the melodies they’d written, it took me so many years to realize that a lot of it had to do with sexism.”

Another artist who has recently drawn attention, though not always for the most positive reasons, is Liam Payne, former member of One Direction. Payne has faced criticism for comments that some have interpreted as homophobic or insensitive, prompting a reevaluation among fans and the public alike. While these remarks have cast a shadow on his individual reputation, One Direction's music remains widely celebrated for its significant impact on pop culture.

Moving forward, it’s essential that we separate art from the artists who created it. Art carries historical significance and cultural weight, and instead of letting it fade into obscurity, we should strive to learn from it. ocietal standards are constantly evolving. What was considered “obscene” seventy years ago could very well be viewed as essential or important today. So rather than dismissing the art because of the artist’s shortcomings, we should appreciate the contributions that can still resonate in our changing cultural landscape.

In today's hectic and pressure-filled environment, stress has become an inevitable aspect of our existence. We may feel overburdened and worn out due to daily obligations, personal problems, and job commitments. Offering yourself rewards, or self-reward, is a straightforward yet powerful method of stress management. Just think of how good it would feel to reward yourself with a small treat for each accomplishment, no matter how humble. This activity not only makes us happy, but it also greatly improves our general wellbeing and mental health.

shopping as a reward for accomplishing a task or completing a demanding activity.

You can increase your motivation by rewarding yourself when you accomplish a task or reach a goal. Celebration of any accomplishment, no matter how small, has been shown to produce dopamine, a neurotransmitter linked to feelings of contentment and happiness. We establish good associations with our achievements when we reward ourselves, which motivates us to keep aiming for success.

Furthermore, Rewarding oneself can be a useful strategy for stress relief. Little rewards might be a welcome diversion during stressful times. Buy something you want to reward yourself or treating yorself to your favorite cup of coffee or viewing a movie you enjoy might provide a much-needed respite after completing a difficult endeavor. This gives you the opportunity to rejuvenate and tackle upcoming obstacles with newfound vigor.

Moreover, When trying to reward themselves, many people feel bad because they think they don't deserve it. But it's important to realize that looking after oneself is not selfish. We can actually become more productive and perform better in our day-to-day lives if we value ourselves. In addition to lowering needless guilt, developing a self-rewarding habit promotes a more optimistic outlook.

Self-reward is an easy yet effective way to improve our mental health and manage stress. By acknowledging and appreciating each accomplishment, no matter how minor, we can reduce stress and increase our motivation and happiness. Incorporating self-reward into our daily routines and treating ourselves should be our deliberate goal. A more balanced and satisfying existence is a direct result of taking care of oneself. Give yourself something pleasant today, then!
